What is layer 2 in crypto?
Last reviewed:
A layer 2 is a network built on top of a main blockchain, called layer 1, to make transactions faster and cheaper. It handles many transactions on its own, then records a summary back on the main chain. The Lightning Network is a layer 2 for Bitcoin, and Ethereum has several. Moving funds between layers can add steps and risks.
