A size word

What a market cap is

Market cap is circulating supply times the last price of one unit. It is a size. It is not a grade. A large number does not mean safer. A small number does not mean a bargain.

Take Bitcoin as a classroom object. About 20.08 million units can move. The last price of one unit is $77,885.

20.08 million × $77,885 ≈ $1.56 trillion

That product is the market cap. We stop at the arithmetic. We do not rank coins by this number. Ranking a list is how a buy list starts.

Supply is circulating units implied by the public market-cap figure, or a labeled classroom rounding when that figure is missing. If the price above has not updated yet, this product is the first-paint figure.
