Stablecoin

Last reviewed:

A stablecoin is a crypto token designed to keep a steady value, usually one U.S. dollar. Most are backed by reserves, like cash and short-term U.S. government debt, held by the company that issues them. The promise is only as strong as those reserves. If people stop trusting them, a stablecoin can slip below its target, which is called a depeg.
