USDT vs USDC: what's the difference?

Last reviewed:

USDT and USDC are the two biggest dollar stablecoins, both designed to stay worth $1. USDT is issued by Tether, and USDC is issued by Circle. They differ in who holds the reserves, how those reserves are reported and which rules apply. Neither is a bank deposit, and both depend on their issuer keeping its promise.
