What is a Bitcoin ETF?

Last reviewed:

A bitcoin ETF, or exchange-traded fund, is a fund that trades on the stock market and tracks the price of bitcoin. Buying a share gives you exposure to bitcoin's price without holding any keys yourself. In January 2024, the SEC approved the first U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs. The fund charges fees, and its value still swings with bitcoin.
