Custodial vs non custodial wallet: what's the difference?

Last reviewed:

A custodial wallet is one where a company holds the keys for you, like an account on an exchange. It is easier to use and may offer password reset, but you rely on that company. A non-custodial wallet means you hold your own keys and seed phrase. You get full control, but if you lose the keys, no one can help.
