How many bitcoins are there?

Bitcoin's supply is capped by its code at 21 million coins. More than 19 million have already been created through mining. New bitcoin is added more slowly over time because of halvings, and the last ones are expected around the year 2140. Some coins are lost for good because their owners lost the keys.
