What is Bitcoin halving?
Last reviewed:
A Bitcoin halving is a built-in event that cuts the reward miners get for each new block in half. It happens every 210,000 blocks, which is about every four years. The most recent halving was in April 2024. Halvings slow the creation of new bitcoin until the 21 million limit is reached, expected around the year 2140.
