What is crypto mining?

Crypto mining is how some blockchains, like Bitcoin, add new blocks and stay secure. Miners use powerful computers to solve a hard math puzzle. The first to solve it adds the next block and earns new coins plus fees. This system is called proof of work. Not all cryptocurrencies use mining; some use proof of stake instead.
