What is a blockchain?
Blockchain explained simply: blocks, confirmations and why a shared list is hard to change. Free beginner guide.
Short answer
A blockchain is a shared list of transactions that many computers keep at once. New entries are added in blocks, and changing old ones would mean out-working the rest of the network.
Common questions
What is a block?
A batch of recent transactions plus a link (a hash) to the block before it. That link is what makes it a chain.
What is a confirmation?
Each new block added after yours counts as one confirmation. More confirmations means your payment is harder to reverse.
Is a blockchain the same as bitcoin?
No. Bitcoin is one blockchain. Ethereum, Solana and others are separate ones with their own rules.
Can anyone read a blockchain?
On public chains, yes. Free tools called block explorers let you look up any transaction.
