What is KYC in crypto?

Last reviewed:

KYC, short for know your customer, is the process companies use to check who you are, usually with a photo ID and personal details. In the U.S., the Bank Secrecy Act and FinCEN rules require many crypto businesses, like exchanges, to do this. KYC helps fight fraud and money laundering. It also links your identity to your activity there.
