What is Web3?

Web3 is a name for the idea of an internet built on blockchains, where people hold their own data and assets in wallets instead of on company servers. Web1 was mostly reading pages; Web2 added posting and social media run by big platforms. Web3 is still more of a goal than a finished thing, and the word is often used in marketing.
